My Godrej Refrigerator

My Godrej Refrigerator had been working silently, but with a low rumbling accompanied by the ring tone of a theatre bell followed by a rest and silence. I thought it was the compressor of the machine. The compressor was a speciality. It came with ten years' warranty.  But this warranty turned out a false promise.

I bought it from Nandilath G-Mart, Calicut, vide their invoice No. CLT 1- 1902407282 dated 28 -09 - 2019, and its model RD EPRO 205 TAI 5.2/209 190 Litre Direct cool

After working continuously for 1213 days out of its warranty of 10 years the machine stopped working on the night of 23rd January 2024.

I reported the matter to the service technician of the company's authorised service centre at Calicut who once came to rectify a minor complaint with the machine.  Then, it was the draining of water through the the door into the floor, instead of it getting collected in the container meant for it, behind the machine.

The technician came and inspected the machine, and announced that the compressor is faulty and it is to be replaced.  I don't know how he came to that conclusion without using any instrument; he had used only a screw driver, which he took out from his bag to unscrew some screws at the top of the door, beneath the body to see the power socket is alright. And the other thing he did was to swich on the machine, and when he switched on, the machine jerked as if it were going to start, but did not.

It was a    Tuesday, that he was came, and he asked me to wait till he check the availability of compressor at his centre, i.e. Godrej  Authorised Service Centre.

Next day he called me and informed that the compressor is not available and asked me to wait till it comes from the company.

Immediately, I made a call to their toll free number 1800209511. My service request was booked under call No O2501806100 dated 25th January 2024.

It may be noted that the company has not a system, by which the aggrieved customer can track the status of his  service request.  All that the call centre people can tell me was 'our technician will call you.'

The Authorised Service Centre No. 9633495051, and 7736444125 could only tell me that the compressor is coming. I do not know whether they had any system to track the compressor.

After fifteen days waiting, the service people came with two packets, which they said was the compressor. I did not ask them why the two packets, but waited to see them doing the job. 

They ( there were two gentlemen) pushed the machine to day light, and one gentleman sat on the floor, looked at the compressor, then at the seal imprinted on the compressor, while the other went out with his mobile phone. The gentleman who looked at the compressor opened one packet and brought out the new compressor which was not identical to the one in the machine.  He told me that the the compressor he brought is not suitable to the PCB installed with the existing compressor. But he had another normal compressor which works without PCB. I asked him whether the machine will consume more energy? He said it definitely will.  I said him that it will not do.

Then he telephoned to his manager at the Authorised Service Centre, and reported the matter to him. Then he gave gave the phone to me. The manager asked me whether I could sign their service sheet with no complaint.  I said that I will state "I do not agree to install a normal compressor in the place of my PCB compressor." With this statement I signed their service sheet. And they left.

My machine compressor has the following seal on it.
G V I T2 Refrigerant R 600 a Motor BLDC.
Operating range 140 - 260V
Rated input voltage - 230V 160 Hz
Motor RPM 1800 to 3800
No. 1908011646 DR 03093.

Then, on 9th February I recieved the following message from their system, Godrej SMS: We are closing your Godrej appliance complaint No. O2501806100 as you have said there is no problem.

I never said there is no problem.  I have not shared the CSN accompanied with the above call No.2501806100. The CSN is shared only when the customer is satisfied with the service.

When I received this Godrej SMS I booked another complaint on 10th February 2024.  I received the call No. O1002634121 together with the CSN.

Again on 12th February I received another Godrej SMS, which ran thus: We have attended to your appliance. In case of pending works please give a missed call within 7 days on 8806099887.

In fact they have not attended the call of. 1002634121 dated 10th February. I think they might have tampered with the CSN.

What about my service request under call No. 1002634121? 

On the same day had given a missed call. 

But no response from the company till date. The machine is waiting for them. 

On 26th February, the service technician of Godrej Service Centre made a call and asked for my location.  By this time I had disposed of the Godrej Refrigerator with ten years warranty, as scrap.  Now anyone can reflect on the efficiency of one of the oldest corporates.
